Indonesia Cooperates with England to Step Up Regulatory Reform

12 June 2019 14:04 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaIndonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs along with the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the development of regulatory reform in Indonesia.

The Coordinating Ministry’s Secretary Susiwijono explained the MoU included technical assistance for the regulatory reform development amounted to £1,14 million or equal to Rp20.6 billion which would be valid for five years until March 31, 2023.

“Indonesian government pleasantly welcomes the MoU signing. We hope this cooperation will run well and help improve the regulatory to increase the investment that leads to the growth of the inclusive economy and reduces the poverty rate in Indonesia as well,” said Susiwijono in his office, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 12.

The deal signing was followed by a workshop regarding post border and product surveillance regime in the country as both countries’ first agenda. The deal implementation could be in the form of information exchange, programs, education, training, seminar, and capacity building or other collaboration agreed by the two countries.

Additionally, he went on, a detailed, specific work plan with a clear goal and product result would be formed and be reviewed every year. The technical aid program was flexible in responding to the development of priority issues from the Indonesian government.

On the same occasion, British Ambassador to Indonesia Moazzam Malik mentioned that International Civil Service Effectiveness Index (InCisSE) declared the UK as the world’s most effective at policymaking and implementing the regulation.

“We hope this collaboration is able to support Indonesia’s economic growth. When Indonesia successes, the opportunity in the world’s economy will be greater, and we’ll be able to create a more prosperous world,” said Malik.
